Good Display has released the GDN029R, a 2.9-inch black/white/red electronic shelf label powered by passive NFC technology. The product eliminates the need for built-in batteries, addressing common pain points of traditional electronic shelf labels such as battery replacement and regular maintenance.
Core Features and Compatibility
The GDN029R utilizes e-paper bistable technology, consuming power only during screen refresh and maintaining static display with zero energy consumption. It is housed in a lightweight, impact-resistant ABS shell that can be customized according to brand requirements.
In terms of device compatibility, the tag supports both iOS and Android smartphones with NFC functionality. However, it is not currently compatible with Samsung devices. Official notes indicate that NFC performance may vary across phone models, and pre-deployment testing with specific devices is recommended.
Content Update Methods
The product offers two content update solutions:
Mobile App Control: Users can download the dedicated "NFC-D3-Pro" app (available on Android via APK and iOS via the App Store) to manage images, text, barcodes and other content. A single tap of the phone against the tag completes the refresh. For optimal results, the phone should be held within approximately 1 cm of the display during transmission.
PC NFC Reader/Writer Solution: Using the GDPN02 reader and ImageToNFC tool, users can import JPG/BMP images for screen updates. This solution supports local file processing without cloud uploads and features enterprise-grade data encryption.
Official guidelines recommend avoiding direct use on metal surfaces, as they can block or weaken NFC signals. Users are also advised to remove metal phone cases or thick protective films and keep the device away from strong electromagnetic sources such as chargers and Bluetooth devices.
Installation and Product Line
Good Display provides a complete ABS rail mounting system for the GDN029R, enabling tool-free installation suitable for large-scale retail deployment. The kit includes mounting strips and a dedicated removal tool for easy setup and maintenance.
The NFC e-paper product line offers multiple size options including 1.54-inch, 2.13-inch, 2.9-inch and 4.2-inch displays, available in black/white, 3-color and 4-color versions. These products are applicable to scenarios such as smart shelf labels, asset tags, desk nameplates and warehouse management.
